Joan K. Austin, DNS, RN, FAAN Joan K. Austin is Distinguished Professor of Nursing at the Indiana University School of Nursing, Indianapolis, Indiana. She holds adjunct appointments in the Department of Psychiatry, at the School of Medicine, and in the Department of Psychology, at the School of Science. She is presently Second Vice President of the American Epilepsy Society, a member of the Professional Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation, and a member of the Research Commission of the International Bureau for Epilepsy. Dr. Austin is a member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Austin has been actively engaged in research investigating mental health problems in children with epilepsy over the past two decades. Her research has led to many honors including the Milken Medical Foundation Clinical Research Award in 1993. In 1999 the International Bureau for Epilepsy and the International League Against Epilepsy presented her the Award for Social Accomplishment. In 2000 the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health, awarded her a Jacob Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award. |
