W. Donald Shields, MD, is presently the Rubin Brown Chair in Pediatrics, Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics, and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurology at the Mattel Children's Hospital at the University of California, Los Angeles. He received his medical degree from the University of Utah College of Medicine. Dr. Shields completed his internship and residency in pediatric medicine at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center. He also completed a residency in neurology and fellowship in pediatric neurology at the University of Utah College of Medicine.

Dr. Shields has been a member of many societies, including the Child Neurology Society, Professors of Child Neurology, the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Epilepsy Society. He has been investigator and co-investigator on 30 funded grants. Dr. Shields has authored and co-authored over 80 articles and over 25 book chapters. He has also written and co-written over 70 abstracts and 2 book reviews.
